Akshaya Tritiya 2025: Significance Of Purchasing Gold On Akshaya Tritiya

Akshaya Tritiya is believed to be the best time to buy gold and there are a few popular legends that justify why. 'Akshaya' literally means 'never decreasing' and individuals believe that if gold is purchased on this day, it guarantees unlimited prosperity and wealth. Since gold is a symbol of wealth and prosperity, buying it on such a propitious moment is believed to give the purchaser eternal wealth and fortune.

Akshaya Tritiya is also traditionally considered a auspicious day for commencement of new initiatives. Some individuals also start businesses, invest in business ventures or initiate significant projects, hoping that the benign energies of the day will be their passport to success. Purchasing such precious metals as gold and silver is also widely practiced, as they are expected to ward off despair and usher in future prosperity. The day is widely observed with great enthusiasm and families would make large purchases to commemorate the day.

As per the sacred Hindu texts, Akshaya Tritiya is the start of the first yug, Satyug, or the golden age. Hindu legends also state that on this day, Lord Krishna presented Draupadi with a patra (leaf) of food that would last forever for the Pandavas throughout their exile. These legends continue to add strength to the faith that whatever is started on this day will grow and multiply, thereby presenting it as the best time to invest in riches and new endeavours.

Besides, Akshaya Tritiya is also associated with heavenly and divine phenomena. On this day, the Sun is believed to be at its most radiant, indicating strength and prosperity. The river Ganga also came down to earth on this day, and Goddess Annapurna, the goddess of nourishment, was born, making the day even more divine.
