Akshaya Tritiya 2025 or Akha Teej, Akti is a sacred day of observance in great devotion by the adherents of Hinduism and Jainism. It occurs on the Shukla Paksha, or waxing moon phase, during the month of Vaisakha. 'Akshaya' as a term in Sanskrit refers to infinite or eternal, representing unlimited fortune and prosperity associated with this event. Devotees worship Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha and Lord Vishnu on this significant day for bestowing blessings on success, happiness and wealth. Akshaya Tritiya is a preferred time to purchase precious metals like gold, embark on new journeys like getting married, opening a business, entering a new house or changing jobs.
This year, Akshaya Tritiya will be observed on 30th April 2025. However, there will be no shubh muhurat to conduct a marriage ceremony on this Akshaya Tritiya or Akha Teej. Know the reason behind it and check other significant details below.
Akshaya Tritiya 2025: Why There Is No Shubh Muhurat For Wedding On Akha Teej This Year
As per the Hindu Panchang, Akshaya Tritiya falls on the Tritiya Tithi during the Shukla Paksha in Vaishakh month. The day is traditionally regarded as extremely sacred for undertaking divine and significant tasks. But this time, a rare conjunction ensures there will not be any shubh muhurat for weddings during Akshaya Tritiya. Because of Venus (Shukra) and Jupiter's (Guru) setting (Tara Ast), the planet's conditions during wedding ceremonies are not auspicious. However, there is no ban on gold, silver or new purchases on this day. Individuals can invest in precious metals and other value-added goods, as it is meant to bring luck and prosperity to them. People may make gold purchases in the shubh muhurat to welcome long-term prosperity and wealth into their lives.

Why Akshaya Tritiya Is Considered An Auspicious Day To Get Married And Perform Other Significant Rituals
According to belief, sacred rituals, rites and generous deeds performed on this day yield eternal bliss, prosperity and grace. The origin of Akshaya Tritiya dates back to ancient Indian mythology. It is on this day that Kubera, who is the deity of wealth and the treasurer among gods, offered prayer to Goddess Lakshmi and was rewarded with infinite prosperity. This makes the day very favourable for launching new projects, buying gold or land and performing weddings. Some significant mythological incidents are also associated with Akshaya Tritiya. It was on this day that the sacred Ganges descended upon the earth and sage Parshuram, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu, took birth.
The Treta Yuga, the era of the Ramayana, also commenced on this auspicious day. It was on Akshaya Tritiya that Ved Vyasa began to recount the Mahabharata to Lord Ganesha. Another account suggests that Lord Krishna’s childhood friend Sudama paid a visit to him at Dwarka and offered him some rice. Pleased with his surrender and devotion, Lord Krishna blessed him with prosperity and abundance. All of these significant instances in Hinduism make the sacred day of Akshaya Tritiya highly favourable to perform weddings and make other significant purchases and puja.
