Bali Pratipada 2025 Date: Bali Puja, also known as Bali Pratipada, is celebrated on the first day of Kartik Pratipada, the day after Diwali Puja. This puja coincides with Govardhan Puja, which is dedicated to Mount Govardhan and Lord Krishna. Bali Puja is performed to worship the demon king Bali, who was blessed by Lord Vishnu. On this day, a five-coloured idol of King Bali is made and worshipped. This year, Bali Pratipada will be observed on 22nd October 2025.

Bali Pratipada 2025: Story

The sacred Hindu legends suggest that due to a boon granted by Lord Vishnu, the demon King Bali is worshipped in India during Diwali. As per the legends, Lord Vishnu in his Vamana avatar, banished King Bali to the netherworld or Patal Loka but pleased with his generosity, Lord Vishnu allowed him to visit the earth for three days. King Bali is believed to reside on earth during these three days and bless his devotees. In South India, King Bali is worshipped during Onam. However, in North India, Bali Puja is performed in his honour after Diwali.

Bali Pratipada 2025: Significance

Balipratipada is a major Hindu festival celebrated to honour the devotion and generosity of the demon king Bali, who was defeated by Lord Vishnu's Vamana avatar and exiled to the netherworld. The festival falls on the fourth day of Diwali and is also known as Padwa or Bali Padyami. On this day, Lord Bali is worshipped, and gratitude is expressed to Lord Vishnu for allowing him to come to Earth. The festival is celebrated in different ways in different regions.

In Maharashtra and South India, husbands and wives observe Bali Pratipada by performing aarti for one another, sharing sweets, and lighting lamps in their homes. This day is a celebration of love, faith, and devotion. Bali Pratipada reminds us that true faith is found in sacrifice, commitment, and dedication and not in power or wealth.

Bali Pratipada 2025: Rituals

According to religious texts, during Bali Puja, an idol of King Bali and his wife Vindhyavali should be placed in the centre of the home. This idol is decorated with five colours and then worshipped. The five-colored idol is considered auspicious and brings happiness and prosperity to the home.
