Govardhan Puja 2025 is considered to be of special importance in Hindu religion. Dueing the Govardhan Puja, women make Govardhan mountain from cow dung and worship it. According to beliefs, Lord Krishna broke the ego of Indradev and worshipped Govardhan mountain. Angered by this gesture of the Lord Krishna, Indra Dev showed his wrath by sending hefty rain in Braj. To save the Brajwasis, Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan mountain on his pinky finger which protected the people of Braj, and since then this festival started being celebrated and Govardhan mountain started being worshipped. This year, Govardhan Puja falls on 22nd October 2025.

To create the Govardhan mountain, devotees can use cow dung or clay. Dilute it with a little water to make a partially soft paste so that you can draw figurines easily. Use this dung to create a square or border. Then, within this square, create shapes of a mountain, Lord Krishna, a cow, trees, plants, etc. In most homes, this form of Giriraj Ji is made and worshipped in the morning, while in others, it is worshipped in the evening.

In the evening, collect all the cow dung from the square. Then, create a mountain-like structure from the dung. Using a stick, shape the structure into a face by creating eyes and a nose. Once the Govardhan mountain structure has dried, decorate it with a crown and clothes. If you wish, you can also use peacock feathers in the Govardhan mountain structure.

Then, apply a white or yellow tilak to Govardhan's forehead. Offer flowers, kheel (rice puffs), batasha, sweets, and sugar toys (khilone) as offerings. Be sure to decorate the surrounding Govardhan mountain structure with colorful flowers. Especially use marigold, jasmine, palash, lotus, hibiscus, and dhatura flowers.

Before performing the Govardhan puja, prepare 56 offerings made from various dishes to offer to Lord Krishna. After creating the Giriraj Mountain with cowdung or clay, offer roli, rice, sweets, and water before the figure of Lord Krishna. Offer the puja materials such as milk, betel leaves, saffron, flowers, etc. to the Lord with devotion.

Light a lamp before the Lord and meditate on Him. Offer all 56 dishes to Lord Krishna with love and devotion. Thereafter, worship Nandi and Mother Cow. Apply a turmeric tilak at their feet. Offer green grass and jaggery to the cows and calves, which are Krishna's favorite items. Finally, perform aarti of Lord Krishna and conclude the puja.
