Govardhan Puja 2025 is a sacred festival that celebrates the divine act of Lord Krishna lifting the sacred Govardhan Giriraj mountain. The day celebrates Lord Krishna’s compassion in saving the Brijwasis from Lord Indra’s anger. Each year, according to the Hindu Panchang, Govardhan Puja is celebrated on the Pratipada Tithi of Shukla Paksha during the month of Kartik. On this holy day, followers build an image of Lord Krishna as Giriraj on the ground with cow dung and make annakoot bhog. They also give service to cows, animals, and aspects of nature. This year, Govardhan Puja falls on 22nd October 2025.

Dos For Govardhan Puja
- Make An Idol Of Govardhan Giriraj Ji: Create an image of Lord Krishna lifting Govardhan Giriraj using cow dung or clay, adorned with flowers and lamps.
- Prepare Annakoot Bhog: Prepare various seasonal vegetables and grains as Annakut Bhog to offer to Lord Krishna, showing gratitude for nature's gifts.
- Perform Govardhan Puja And Worship Lord Govardhan: To gain blessings of safety and wealth, offer prayers, chant mantras, and perform aarti to Lord Krishna and Govardhan Parvat.
- Feed Cows And Animals: Since Lord Krishna is known as the protector of cows, feeding cows and other animals on this day is considered extremely auspicious.

Don’ts For Govardhan Puja
- Do Not Consume Non-Vegetarian Food, Alcohol And Onion And Garlic: To honour the sanctity of the puja, please abstain from non-vegetarian food, alcohol, and any tamasic food items during this holy day.
- Do Not Cut Trees And Plants: To show our respect for the Earth, please do not cut or harm any trees, plants, or greenery today. Remember to value nature, as Govardhan Puja honors its part in supporting all life.
- Do Not Perform Puja Without Bathing: Ensure you are bathed and dressed in clean clothes before beginning the puja as personal purity is important for the rituals.
How To Perform Govardhan Puja
To observe Govardhan Puja, start by presenting two sugarcane stalks to the Govardhan representation. Offer yogurt, milk, batasha, laddus, and pedas as a sacred offering. Light a lamp and present roli and rice. Worship Govardhan with sincerity and ask for blessings. Share the sacred food by placing some batasha on a plate and giving it to someone with money as a sign of goodwill. It's traditional for the women in the household to eat first, beginning their meal with something sweet.
