Bhadrakali Jayanti 2025 commemorates the birth anniversary or appearance day of Goddess Bhadrakali and is celebrated on the Ekadashi (11th day) of the Krishna Paksha of the Hindu month of Jyeshta. The word 'Bhadra' in Sanskrit means ‘good’ and devotees believe that worshipping the Goddess on this day will bestow protection on the righteous. It is also celebrated in some Indian states as Apara Ekadashi and in Odisha as Jalakrida Ekadashi. According to Hindu legends, Goddess Bhadrakali was born from Lord Shiva's hair when he got angry upon hearing about the death of Devi Sati. Her incarnation was destined to destroy demons and reclaim cosmic balance. This day is especially significant to Aryan Saraswat Brahmins and is widely celebrated in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir. This year, Bhadrakali Jayanti will be observed on 23rd May 2025.

Bhadrakali Jayanti 2025: Significance
The importance of Bhadrakali Jayanti is referred to in the 'Nilmat Purana', or 'Vitasta Mahatmya'. The devotees opine that by praying to Goddess Kali on this auspicious day, they can resolve the obstacles of life and gain divine blessings. Pious prayers to Goddess Bhadrakali are said to wash away all the problems related to the horoscope, including any 'Grah Dosha'. The day is also considered very auspicious for solving astrological issues and bringing positivity into one's life.
There is also a popular belief that one can fulfil eleven wishes by offering prayers on Bhadrakali Jayanti, as it coincides with Krishna Paksha Ekadashi. In some regions, people refer to it as ‘Bhadrakali Ekadashi’ due to this unique connection. The occasion becomes even more auspicious when it falls on a Tuesday and during the ‘Revati’ Nakshatra. If it coincides with the time of 'Kumbh Mela', then its religious significance is greater, and the day becomes particularly divine for Indians throughout the country.
Bhadrakali Jayanti 2025: Rituals
Hindu devotees worship Goddess Bhadrakali on her Jayanti with utmost faith and dedication. They start the day by waking up early, finishing their morning rituals, and dressing themselves in black or blue attire, which are favourite hues for the day. These colours are said to appease the Goddess and draw her blessings. These represent honour and spiritual preparedness for the day's rituals.
At the puja altar, devotees install the idol of Bhadrakali Mata and conduct a sacred bath called 'Panchamrita Abhishek' with water, milk, sugar, honey and ghee. The idol is then attired in proper clothes and decorated with respect after this ritual. Offering coconut water to the Goddess is considered very auspicious on this day. Chandan Puja and Bilva Puja are also done as part of the sacred offerings by the followers.
The main prayers start around noon, with a number of Devi Mantras recited to seek the blessings of Goddess Bhadrakali. During the evening, believers attend Kali temples and participate in special pujas and rituals arranged for the festival to offer their praise and gratitude to the Goddess through congregational worship and devotion.
