This month gets its name from the full moon in the Chitra Nakshatra constellation. According to Hindu customs and history, Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, started his creation during Chaitra. The Narada Purana also mentions that Lord Vishnu's first incarnation, Matsya, saved Manu from floodwaters, paving the way for a new creation. This month is also significant for Goddess Durga, who revealed her new form to the world.
As a result, devotees worship nine forms of Durga during Chaitra Navratri. Nature also undergoes a transformation, as winter gives way to summer and greenery blooms.
