Chandra Grahan September 2025: Dos And Don’ts Of Total Lunar Eclipse
1. Avoid Eating During Grahan: During a lunar eclipse, it is advised to avoid food, whether solid or liquid, from nine hours before the eclipse until it ends. For solar eclipses, the restriction begins twelve hours earlier. However, children, elderly people, and those who are unwell are permitted some relief, with restrictions lasting for only one prahar, or roughly three hours.
2. Precautions For Pregnant Women: It is highly suggested that pregnant women stay inside throughout the eclipse. It is believed that the negative energies from certain celestial events could harm the baby's health, possibly increasing the chance of problems. Activities like cutting or sewing fabric are also not encouraged, since these are believed to badly impact the unborn child.
3. Prohibited Activities During Chandra Grahan: Certain everyday practices are best avoided during the eclipse period. Traditional beliefs discourage oil massage, brushing teeth, combing hair, drinking water, and even engaging in sexual activity while the eclipse is underway. These restrictions are observed to minimise negative influences and to maintain purity of body and mind while the celestial event is unfolding.
4. Rituals To Follow After Chandra Grahan: Once the total lunar eclipse ends, it is recommended to discard any cooked food and prepare fresh meals. Food items like grains, cereals, and pickles, which cannot be thrown away, should be protected with tulsi leaves or kusha grass. A purifying bath should be taken, followed by charity or offerings to Brahmins, as such acts are believed to carry great spiritual merit after a Grahan.
