Devotees believe that Goddess Lakshmi bestows wealth, prosperity and good fortune upon them.
Goddess Lakshmi is revered in eight forms, known as Ashta Lakshmi. By worshipping her, devotees seek a balanced and fulfilling life, filled with luxuries, strength, knowledge, bravery and good health. Worshipping Ashta Lakshmi daily is believed to bring harmony and prosperity to all aspects of life, ensuring that one's needs are always met.

Lakshmi Panchami 2025: Vrat Katha
Goddess Lakshmi once disappeared into the cosmic sea, taking with her the luxuries, strength and powers of the gods. The gods were shocked and searched for her everywhere but to no avail. On the advice of Dev Guru Brihaspati, Dev Raj Indra embarked on a harsh penance, but it yielded no results. Undeterred, Indra decided to fast, abstaining from food and drink, until Goddess Lakshmi returned.
The other gods joined Indra in his fast, chanting Goddess Lakshmi's names and mantras. Moved by their devotion, Goddess Lakshmi reappeared from the cosmic sea on Chaitra Shukla Panchami. This marked the beginning of the tradition of fasting to please Goddess Lakshmi. To this day, devotees fast and pray to Goddess Lakshmi, seeking her blessings for happiness, health, and wealth.
Lakshmi Panchami 2025: Rituals
To celebrate Lakshmi Panchami, people rise early and take a holy bath, marking the start of their fast. They worship Goddess Lakshmi, offering prayers and reciting her Aarti. The idol of Lakshmi Mata is bathed in Panchamrit and placed on an altar, surrounded by offerings of sandalwood, banana leaves, flowers, rice and durva.
Devotees engage in charitable acts, donating to Brahmins and those in need. Those fasting, known as Vrati, sustain themselves on fruits and milk, abstaining from regular foods like rice, roti and vegetables. Married couples perform puja together, seeking Goddess Lakshmi's blessings for a happy and peaceful married life.
During the puja, devotees recite mantras and holy scriptures such as the Lakshmi Chalisa to invoke Goddess Lakshmi's divine presence. By following these traditions, devotees aim to connect with Goddess Lakshmi and receive her blessings for prosperity, happiness and well-being.
