According to Hindu legends, the River Yamuna descended to Earth during the sixth day of the Chaitra month. Yamuna Chhath 2025: Rituals

On the sacred day of Yamuna Chhath, devotees rise before dawn to take a spiritual bath in the Yamuna River at sunrise and sunset. This sacred ritual is believed to purify the soul and bring eternal joy and love.

The ghats are meticulously cleaned for this occasion, and the sound of crackers fills the air. Special pujas are offered to Goddess Yamuna at specific times, calculated based on astronomical observations. As the goddess is revered as Lord Krishna's companion, devotees also worship him on this day.

Devotees observe a strict 24-hour fast on Yamuna Chhath, abstaining from food and drink. The fast is broken the next day after completing the morning puja rituals. Special food offerings, known as 'naivedyam' are prepared for Goddess Yamuna. After the puja, food is donated to Brahmins.
