Masik Shivratri May 2025: Masik Shivaratri, which means monthly Shivaratri, is a significant Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Shiva. It takes place every month on the 14th day of the dark fortnight, just before the Purnima (full moon). This night is believed to be a particularly good time for worshipping Lord Shiva. Many people believe that fasting and praying to Mahadev on this day can bring peace, help them grow spiritually and grant liberation.
Unmarried folks hoping to find the right partner and married women wanting harmony in their marriages participate in this fast with a strong belief. Unlike the grand celebrations of Maha Shivaratri, Masik Shivaratri is more about personal spiritual growth, making it a unique and meaningful time for each person. By fasting, devotees look for blessings from Lord Shiva for a happier life. This year, Masik Shivratri in the Hindu month of Jyeshtha will be observed on 25th May 2025.

There is a legend about how Lord Shiva appeared as a Lingam on Shivratri, which is a really important day. It goes that Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu were arguing about who was more powerful, when suddenly a huge pillar of fire showed up. They tried to figure out where it came from and where it ended, but they couldn’t. In that moment, Lord Shiva showed his greatness, and as a penalty for their dispute, he cursed Lord Brahma to never have a temple built for him on earth. This tale makes Shivratri a special day for those who follow Lord Shiva.
