Matsya Dwadashi 2025: The sacred day of Matsya Dwadashi is celebrated on the 12th day or Dwadashi tithi of Margashirsha month. This sacred day marks the occasion when Lord Vishnu took his first avatar - Matsya or the divine fish in the Satya Yuga. It is believed that offering prayers to Lord Vishnu and worshipping his Matsya Avatar on Matsya Dwadashi eradicates the sins of the devotees and grants them salvation. As per the Panchang, Matsya Dwadashi is observed a day after Mokshada Ekadashi and Gita Jayanti. This year, Matsya Dwadashi is being observed on 2nd December 2025.

Matsya Dwadashi 2025: Significance

According to legend, Lord Vishnu saved the universe from destruction on this day by taking up the Matsya Avatar. When the demon Hiranyakashipu stole the Vedas, Lord Vishnu, in the form of a fish, rescued them. Fasting on this day helps to cleanse oneself of sins. Performing pujas and prayers on this day fulfills all desires through the grace of Lord Vishnu. This day is considered highly auspicious for spiritual progress. It is believed that feeding flour to fish on this day brings blessings.

Matsya Dwadashi 2025: Rituals

Devotees must wake up during the Brahma Muhurta, bathe, and purify themselves before proceeding to the place of worship. Clean the place and place a yellow mat on a platform. Install the idol of Lord Vishnu in the Matsya avatar. Then, worship Lord Ganesha first. Offer flowers, incense, lamps, and offerings to Lord Vishnu. Additionally, it is highly auspicious to chant Lord Vishnu mantras on Matsya Dwadashi. Devotees must also listen to or read the story of the Matsya avatar. The devotees must conclude the Matsya Dwadashi Puja by performing aarti of Lord Vishnu.
