Gita Jayanti 2025: Gita Jayanti marks the sacred day when Lord Krishna delivered the divine teachings of the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. This scripture is not merely a religious text, but a wonderful guide to the art of living. The Gita's greatest message is - "Nishkam Karma" which means perform your duty with complete sincerity without worrying about the results, because the soul is immortal and change is the law of the universe. It inspires us to face every challenge of life by following the path of knowledge, devotion, and right action, and ultimately attain moksha. This year, Gita Jayanti will be observed by the devotees on 1st December 2025.
On this sacred occasion, let us check out 7 lesser-known facts about the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita that everyone should know:
Gita Jayanti 2025: 7 Lesser-Known Facts About Shrimad Bhagavad Gita You Should Know
1. Ratio of Speakers in the Verses
Fact: Most people believe that the Gita was entirely spoken by Lord Krishna alone, but only 574 of the 700 verses are uttered by Lord Krishna.
Explanation: The remaining verses are from four different speakers: Arjuna (85 verses), Sanjaya (40 verses), and even Dhritarashtra (1 verse). This reflects the depth and breadth of the dialogue, where Sanjaya recounts the battle's events to Dhritarashtra.
2. Essence of the Upanishads and the Name "Gitopanishad"
Fact: The Gita is often called the "Essence of the Upanishads" or "Gitopanishad."
Explanation: Just as a cow or Gau gives milk, all the Upanishads are considered cows, Lord Krishna the milker, and Arjuna the calf. The Gita is the "milk" of all these Upanishads, the final and simple conclusion of all Vedic knowledge.

Fact: It is believed that Lord Krishna imparted this entire knowledge to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra in just 45 minutes.
Explanation: This sermon was delivered on the first day of the Mahabharata war, standing between the two armies. This fact demonstrates that even the deepest spiritual and philosophical knowledge can be presented in a very concise form, in the shortest possible time.
5. To whom was the knowledge of the Gita first imparted?
Fact: Krishna told Arjuna that he was not the first to impart this yoga (knowledge).
Explanation: In the fourth chapter of the Gita, Lord Krishna himself states that he first imparted this imperishable yoga to the Sun God Vivasvan, who imparted it to Manu, and Manu imparted it to Ikshvaku.
