Mokshada Ekadashi 2025: Vrat Katha

Long ago, there was a king named Vaikhanasa. His subjects were very satisfied with him, and his kingdom lacked nothing. The king's rule was going very well. One day, while the king was resting, he dreamt that his father was suffering terribly in hell, agonising over death. The king saw his father constantly pleading with him to relieve him of this suffering. This deeply saddened the king and awakened him from his sleep. The next morning, the king woke early and summoned all the learned and pundits to recount the story of his dream and ask them the secret behind it.

The pundits said to the king, "O King! You must go to the ashram of a saint named Parvat and ask for a solution to your father's salvation." Accepting the solution suggested by the Brahmins, the king went to the sage's ashram and told him his problem. After listening to the entire story, Parvat Rishi expressed his concern and said, "O King! Your father has been sent to hell due to the sinful deeds of his previous life. For your father's well-being, you should observe the fast of Mokshada Ekadashi and dedicate the fruits of this fast to your father. By doing so, he will be freed from the sins of his previous life and attain salvation." As per the sage's advice, the king observed the fast of Mokshada Ekadashi and received blessings from the poor by giving them food, donations, and clothes. By offering the merits earned from this fast to his father, he attained salvation.
