Mohini Ekadashi 2026: Vrat Katha In English
Once, there was a highly moral man called Dhanpal living in Bhadravati city. Dhanpal happened to be an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. Out of his five sons, the youngest one by name Dhrishtabuddhi had been an exceptionally evil person. The son had spent all the wealth of his father on indulgences such as gambling and intoxication. Finally, his actions became so obnoxious that his family members decided to expel him from his house. When the young man found himself devoid of any support, he took to hunting animals and birds in the forest.
One day, while just wandering about without any purpose, he came across the hermitage of the renowned sage Kaundinya. At that particular time, the sage had just returned from his bath in the holy river Ganges, and some drops of the water had accidentally fallen on the body of Dhrishtabuddhi. Just by coming into contact with these blessed drops of water, he had an epiphany about all the sins committed by him in his life and his mind was instantly cleansed. He wept profusely and bowed down before the sage and requested him to guide him towards the path of salvation. The compassionate sage told him that he should observe the 'Mohini Ekadashi' with complete dedication.

Exactly following the guidance of the sage, Dhrishtabuddhi kept the Mohini Ekadashi fasting in perfect compliance with all its ritualistic procedures. Thanks to the spiritual merits gained from observing this great vow, all his serious sins and sorrows were cleansed from him. He became free from the illusion of the world and attained divinity to go to Vaikuntha Loka, which is heaven for Lord Vishnu. As per the holy books, just by hearing or reading the glory of this holy fasting, a person gains spiritual merits equal to the donation of a thousand cows.
