Thrissur Pooram 2026: Thrissur Pooram is the largest festival in Kerala, held once a year at Vadakkunnathan Temple located at Thrissur. In this festival, deities of nearby temples come here for the worship of Lord Shiva. The main attractions of this festival are over 50 decorated elephants and echoes of classical music. This festival involves a procession of decorated elephants with golden jewellery, attracting huge crowds.

Thrissur Pooram 2026: Significance
Thrissur Pooram is the most spectacular celebration in Kerala that started about two centuries ago by King Sakthan Thampuran. The king was responsible for the creation of such a wonderful celebration when some temples were not allowed to join any other celebration. At present, it is celebrated as the Mother of Poorams. Some of its highlights are the elephant parade, music, and fireworks. It is regarded as the representation of communal unity and the rich culture of Kerala.

Thrissur Pooram 2026: Rituals
One of the most popular elements of the Thrissur Pooram festival is the elephant procession. The elephants are dressed up with their gold-covered Nettipattam and peacock feathers, creating a wonderful sight.
In the temple premises, there is an event called Ilanjithara Melam, which consists of a performance of 250 performers using traditional instruments. In addition to this, another event that draws attention from everyone watching is the Kudamattom ceremony.
