The greatness of Mohini Ekadashi is explained by Maharishi Vashistha and Lord Krishna. According to belief, one who fasts on this day with utmost sincerity acquires spiritual merit higher than any gained through pilgrimages, donations, or Yajna rituals. The spiritual merit received on this day is equal to the gift of a thousand cows. Fasting on this day leads to salvation and breaks the chain of reincarnation. Thus, this Ekadashi is considered highly auspicious in Hinduism.
Mohini Ekadashi 2026: Rituals
On the day of Mohini Ekadashi, devotees keep a Nirjala fast, which starts from the very night of Dashami. Devotees wake up and take a bath during the Brahma Muhurat on this day and pay homage to Lord Vishnu and Lord Rama. The devotees must make sure to use chandan paste, fruits, and Tulsi leaves in the puja ceremony. People who cannot keep a full fast can maintain a partial one by eating fruits and drinking milk.

The consumption of rice and grains is strictly prohibited on the day of Ekadashi in addition to Tamasic food items like onion and garlic. The devotees observing this sacred fast remain awake throughout the night, engaging in Bhajans and Kirtans, and break their fast the following day.
