Navratri 2023: During the nine-day Navratri festivities, people revere and worship the divine goddess Durga. Various hymns, aartis and mantras are recited to appease the divine goddess and seek her magnificent blessings, and one such religious text is Durga Saptashati. One of the most potent deities in the Hindu pantheon, Goddess Durga, is honoured in the sacred text known as the Durga Saptashati. She is regarded as the Divine Mother who can solve all of her worshippers' troubles and defend them from evil powers. She is a furious aspect of Goddess Parvati, the consort of Shiva. One of the 18 major Puranas, the Markandeya Purana, is where the Durga Saptashati originates. It was most likely written between 400 and 600 CE. The verses in the sacred Durga Shaptashati acknowledge Goddess Durga, the Divine Mother and supreme power who created the universe, for her grandeur.
The Durga Saptshati (also known as Devi Mahatmiya in South India) and Chandi Path (also known as the Chandi Path in West Bengal) contain accounts of Goddess Durga's exploits and victories on the battlefield. It contains around 700 verses spread throughout 13 chapters.
During Chaitra and Sharad Navaratri, devotees recite Durga Saptashati because it is extremely auspicious to do so. It can also be chanted every day or on the Goddess' favourite days Friday and Tuesday.
