Parama Ekadashi 2023: In Hinduism, every fast has its own special significance. Ekadashi Vrat is one of the most important fasts. Ekadashi is the eleventh day of a lunar month's fortnight. A lunar month consists of bright and dark fortnights. Two Ekadashis are observed each month - one falls in the Krishna Paksha (Dark Lunar Fortnight) and the other falls in Shukla Paksha (Bright Lunar Fortnight). Hence, 24 Ekadashi fasts are observed each year.
In Hinduism, the main goal of the Ekadashi fast is to master one's intellect and senses in order to direct them toward spiritual development. Parama Ekadashi is falling on 12th August 2023, Saturday. The Ekadashi Tithi will begin on 11th August 2023, at 05:06 A.M. The fasting will be observed on 12th August 2023, and the Vrat Paaran timings are from 05:49 A.M. - 08:19 A.M. on 13th August 2023.

To attain good fortune, one must adhere to certain guidelines concerning Ekadashi fasting. In addition, there are some activities that one should avoid doing on Ekadashi to prevent creating negative karma. Let us discuss them further.
Things To Avoid On Ekadashi
- Do Not Consume Rice: You might have heard of it a lot that one must refrain from eating rice on the day of Ekadashi. Rice consumption is prohibited on Ekadashi, which is one of the rules of this sacred fast. By consuming rice on this day, it is thought that the individual would take birth as a reptile in their next life. If we talk about astrology, eating rice on this day also prevents a person from attaining liberation.
- Do Not Lie & Get Angry: One should not lie and become angry on the day of Ekadashi fasting as it will create a negative Karma and cause the mind to wander. If you lie or get angry all the time, you won't be able to get the benefits of Ekadashi fasting.
- Do Not Consume Tobacco Or Tea: One must also abstain from consuming tobacco, paan, and tea on the day of Ekadashi. Consuming all of these items could result in the accumulation of negative Karma.
- Do Not Consume Oil: On the day of Ekadashi, it is advisable to cook the food in desi ghee instead of oil. Cooking your food in brass utensils will purify your food and clear out the toxins from your body.
- Do Not Consume Non-Sattvik Food: On the day of Ekadashi, one must only eat sattvik foods. Even if you’re not fasting, avoid eating onion, garlic, and non-vegetarian food.
