When is Pitru Paksha 2023: The 16 lunar day period in the Hindu calendar is called Pitru Paksha. During this time, Hindus pay homage to their ancestors by offering prayers and donating food and clothes to the needy. It is also called Pitr-Paksha, Pitri Pokkho, or Sorah Shraddha (16 shradhs). This year, Pitru Paksha is going to start on 29th September, Friday and will end on the 14th of October, Saturday, on the day of Sarva Pitru Amavasya.

It is believed that by doing Pind Daan, Tarpan, and Shradh rituals during this period of Pitru Paksha, the obstacles in life are removed and one gets the blessings of the ancestors. According to the beliefs, if any animal or bird comes to your house during this period, it should be fed because it is the ancestors that are visiting in this form. Also, feeding brahmins in pitru paksha is also considered auspicious.
