Pradosh Vrat June 2025: Rituals

Twilight, which occurs just before sunrise and sunset, is particularly revered on the day of Pradosham. About an hour before sunset, devotees start preparing for the evening rituals by taking a purifying bath. Since it is thought to be the most auspicious time to connect with Lord Shiva, the prayers and pujas are performed during this twilight period. Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesh, Lord Kartikeya, and Nandi are all worshipped during the initial puja.

Invoking Lord Shiva into a Kalasha, set on darbha grass and adorned with a lotus design follows a revered ceremony. Worshipping the Shivling is also a crucial component of the ceremony in many areas. On this day, devotees offer Bilva leaves, which are thought to be very auspicious, after bathing the Shivling with holy objects like milk, curd, and ghee. For the puja, people without a Shivling frequently use a painting or photograph of Lord Shiva.

Following the ceremonies, followers read passages from the Shiva Purana or listen to the Pradosh Vrat Katha. Another popular and effective practice is reciting the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra 108 times. Sacred ash is applied to the forehead after the puja is over, and water from the Kalasha is ingested as a blessing. For darshan, many devotees also travel to Shiva temples. Even a single lamp lit on this day is thought to bring spiritual merit and divine blessings.
