Purnima May 2025: Vaishakha Purnima or Satya Vinayaka Purnima is a sacred full moon day observed in the Hindu month of Vaishakh. It is an auspicious day filled with acts of devotion, charity and religious rituals. Hindus and Buddhists celebrate the day with full fervour. Falling after Narasimha Jayanti, it is regarded as one of the most significant full moon days. Religious acts and donations done on this day are said to draw tenfold blessings from the gods, and hence it is a very auspicious day in the Hindu calendar. This year, Vaishakh Purnima is set to be observed on 12th May 2025.

However, devotees must adhere to specific guidelines on this sacred day to avoid committing any sin. Check out the list of specific dos and don’ts that must be followed on Vaishakh Purnima to amplify its spiritual benefits:

1. On Purnima, Lord Vishnu is must be worshipped in his Satyanarayan form, along with Goddess Lakshmi. Devotees must also offer arghya to the Moon. The divine energies are particularly charged on this day, adding strength to the positive flow of energy in life.

2. Rituals such as worship, charity and taking a holy dip in sacred rivers on Purnima ensure permanent happiness and prosperity. Yet, one should abstain from certain activities like consuming tamasic food, alcohol, and using harsh or abusive words on this holy day.

3. As per scriptures, hair washing or cutting on Purnima is inauspicious. It can cause loss of money and invite poverty into the household. This holds true for anyone, including men, married women and unmarried women as well.

4. Purnima is when the energy of the Moon is in its fullest extent, filling the world with goodness and light. On Vaishakh Purnima night, moonlight meditation is said to eliminate diseases and facilitate healing, so it is a potent spiritual practice that must be followed.

5. Tulsi is very dear to Lord Vishnu, and therefore, one should never pick its leaves on Purnima. This is inauspicious and disrespectful as it is against the sanctity of the day and the devotion that has been exhibited towards the deity.
