Saraswati Avahan Navratri 2025: During Navratri celebrations, the seventh day, known as Mahasaptami, marks the invocation of Goddess Saraswati, a revered deity of knowledge, music, arts, and wisdom. This ritual, called Saraswati Avahan, seeks to bless devotees with intellectual and creative pursuits. Goddess Saraswati is often depicted wearing a white sari and has four arms, symbolising the four aspects of human learning: mind, intellect, alertness, and ego. Her mount is a swan or peacock, representing discernment and artistic expression. She is also known as Sharada, Veenapani, and Tridevi. Saraswati Avahan Navratri 2025: Significance
Ancient Hindu texts state that the goddess Saraswati, who helped the Trimurti - Lord Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma played a crucial part in the creation and upkeep of the universe. The phrase "Saraswati Avahan" refers to calling upon this esteemed deity of knowledge and insight. Devotees call upon Goddess Saraswati on this auspicious day to seek her blessings for intellectual endeavours, creativity and knowledge. According to legend, the universe was created by Lord Brahma using the wisdom of Goddess Saraswati, highlighting the significance of knowledge in attaining success. Saraswati Avahan is the primary day of her conjuration, and she is fervently worshipped during the last three days of Navratri.

Saraswati Avahan Navratri 2025: Rituals
The Saraswati Avahan puja usually takes place during the Mula Nakshatra muhurat, which lasts about five hours. The exact time changes each year. A specific mantra is said to call upon Goddess Saraswati, asking for her blessings and protection. This sacred practice starts a very important celebration that is full of faith and spiritual meaning.
As part of the puja, the idol of Goddess Saraswati is beautifully decorated with kumkum and chandan, a ritual known as 'alankaram'. Incense sticks and flowers are offered to the deity. The ritual of washing the Goddess's feet is also performed, followed by a 'sankalpam', a solemn vow to seek her blessings.

Special food offerings, known as 'Naivedyam' are prepared in white colours, symbolising Goddess Saraswati's favourite hue. After the puja, the Naivedyam is distributed as 'prasad' among devotees. Bhajans are sung in praise of the Goddess. Some devotees also observe a fast on this day, seeking Goddess Saraswati's blessings and guidance.
