Saraswati Puja 2025: Rituals

The rituals of Saraswati Puja, as observed in the Bengali calendar, begin with the preparation of the idol of Goddess Saraswati. The idol is adorned with beautiful clothes, ornaments, and flowers. On the day of the puja, the idol is placed on a decorated platform, and devotees gather around it to offer their prayers and worship.

The puja itself involves a series of rituals, including the invocation of the goddess, the offering of flowers, fruits, and other items, and the recitation of mantras and prayers. Devotees also offer traditional sweets, such as mishti doi and sandesh to the goddess and distribute prasad among themselves. The puja is typically performed in the morning and is followed by cultural programmes such as music and dance performances.

At the end of the puja, the idol of Goddess Saraswati is immersed in a nearby water body, marking the conclusion of the festival. This ritual is known as "bisorjon" and is an essential part of the Saraswati Puja celebrations in Bengal. The immersion of the idol symbolises the return of the goddess to her celestial abode and marks the end of the festivities.
