Swaminarayan Jayanti 2025 Date: Swaminarayan Birth Anniversary or Swaminarayan Jayanti marks the appearance day of Shri Swaminarayan or Sahajanand Swami, the founder of Swaminarayan Sampradaya. He was a revered Yogi and Ascetic who was born in 1781 and promoted the Hindu practices - Brahmacharya, Ahimsa and Dharma among other people. The followers of Shri Swaminarayan consider him to be a manifestation of Lord Krishna.

The birth anniversary of Shri Swaminarayan is celebrated every year during the ninth day of Chaitra Shukla Paksha, coinciding with the Ram Navami celebrations. This year, Shri Swaminarayan Jayanti will be observed on 6th April 2025.

Swaminarayan Jayanti 2025: Significance
Shri Swaminarayan, known as Ghanshyam in his childhood was born near Ayodhya in the town of Chapaiya. His mother, Bhakti Mata gave him the name Ghanashyam, while his father affectionately called him Dharma Dev. His devotees believe that he manifested on the Earth to bless his followers and destroy evil.
From a young age, Shri Swaminarayan demonstrated remarkable spiritual prowess. By the age of seven, he is known to have mastered sacred texts like the Ramayan, Vedas and Shrimad Bhagwatam. He even won a theological debate when he was just 10 years old. At 11, he renounced worldly desires and embarked on a 7,000-mile journey across India, walking barefoot. As per the beliefs, Shri Swaminarayan later mastered the Ashtanga yoga form at 14 and became the spiritual head by 20.
Shri Swaminarayan's remarkable life and teachings have earned him enduring reverence. At the age of 49, he chose to reside in Akshardham. His promise to remain spiritually present and guide his followers across time and generations has established his status as a revered figure of worship.

Swaminarayan Jayanti 2025: Rituals
Shri Swaminarayan Jayanti is observed with great enthusiasm in Swaminarayan Akshardham Temples. Devotees gather to recite devotional songs continuously for 24 hours, showcasing their devotion to Shri Swaminarayan. They reflect on his spiritual teachings and share them with fellow devotees.
To mark the occasion, devotees organise a special worship ceremony to seek the divine blessings of Shri Swaminarayan. Devotees believe that on this day, Shri Swaminarayan himself descended to Earth to bless his followers. To welcome him, the followers place his idol in a decorated cradle and offer food to please him. The Puja concludes with the performance of Aarti, followed by the distribution of prasad.
The Swaminarayan Jayanti celebrations continue for six days, during which the cradle is placed in the temple and various rituals are performed. Devotees chant prayers while gently swinging the cradle.
