However, have you ever wondered why Lord Murugan has two wives? Let's explore the captivating tale of Lord Murugan's two spouses, Devasena and Valli and know the interesting legend behind the marriage of the revered Tamil god.
Why Lord Murugan Has Two Wives Devasena And Valli?
According to the sacred Hindu legends, the two wives of Lord Murugan, Devasena and Valli, represent the harmonious integration of divine and human elements in spirituality. Devasena symbolises Kriya Shakti - the Power of Action, thereby reflecting formal and traditional worship. Valli symbolises Ichha Shakti - the Power of Will, thereby showcasing a passionate and unconventional form of devotion. Lord Murugan is believed to symbolise Gyana Shakti or Wisdom Power and he seamlessly merges with both, symbolising the blend of action, desire and knowledge.
According to a legend, Devasena and Valli were the daughters of Lord Vishnu in their previous birth and performed penance to become the consorts of Lord Murugan. Lord Skanda bestowed upon them this blessing, and in their subsequent birth, Devasena became his wife in an arranged marriage, whereas Valli was captivated by his divine allure.
