Yama Dwitiya 2025 Date: The festival of Bhai Dooj or Yama Dwitiya is celebrated on the second day of the Shukla Paksha month of Kartika, two days after Diwali. According to legend, River Yamuna fed her brother Yamaraj at her home on Yama Dwitiya, and this day has been celebrated since then. Observing Yama Dwitiya by showing devotion to Lord Yama and Chitragupta has an important spiritual meaning. People offer prayers on this day, hoping for a long, good life and freedom from rebirth. Lord Yama is known as the god of death, and Chitragupta keeps records of people's actions. Showing devotion to both is believed to give protection from early death and encourages people to live morally. This day serves as a reminder that life is short and pushes us to be better.

Yama Dwitiya 2025: Rituals

During Yama Dwitiya, sisters invite their brothers to their homes. They then mark their foreheads with a tilak, perform aarti, and give them flowers, sandalwood, and sweets. The brothers are served a meal made with care. In return, brothers bless their sisters, give them gifts, and pledge to protect them. Lighting a lamp on this day represents protection from death. In some families, the brother is honoured by making them sit on a wooden plank.
