India enjoyed a golden day in compound archery at the Asian Games 2026 as the country clinched two gold medals on Wednesday. The Indian women’s compound team retained its title with a dominant win over China before the mixed team of Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Rajesh Jadhav defeated South Korea in a thrilling shoot-off to complete the double.
Chikitha and Sahil showed nerves of steel to prevail over Korea’s Jungyoon Park and Choi Eun Gyu, winning the gold-medal match 158-157 after a shoot-off. The victory also secured India a 2028 Olympic quota place.
The Indian duo had entered the gold-medal match after beating Thailand 156-155 in the semifinals. Chikitha, who had already won gold as part of the women’s team earlier in the day, paired up with Sahil to produce another impressive performance.
Chikitha-Sahil Hold Nerve Against Korea
The Indian mixed team established an early two-point lead against South Korea and maintained its advantage heading into the final stretch.
Chikitha faltered slightly with a 9, but Sahil held his nerve to keep India ahead and take the contest into a tense finish. The Indian pair eventually prevailed in the shoot-off to secure another gold medal.
The victory came after their narrow 156-155 semifinal win over Thailand, setting up a summit clash against South Korea.

India Defend Women's Compound Archery Gold
Earlier, the Indian women’s compound archery team produced a sensational performance to outclass China 238-234 and retain its Asian Games gold medal with a world record-equalling score.
The Indian team comprising Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep dominated the summit clash to secure the top spot on the podium.
The Indians equalled the world record held by South Korea, which had achieved the same total during the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
China’s team of Wunier, Yue Wang and Fangyao Wei won the silver medal, while South Korea’s Park Jungyoon, Park Yerin and Kang Yeonseo defeated Chinese Taipei to claim bronze.
India Produce Perfect Finish
The Indian trio brought their ‘A’ game to the final, taking the opening end 60-58 after finding perfection with a series of perfect 10s.
The defending champions continued to dominate in the second end, again taking it 60-58 to extend their advantage.
India entered the final end with a 178-176 lead and remained composed under pressure. China crumbled with two 9s, while India produced yet another perfect round with six perfect 10s to seal the gold.
The 238-point effort also saw India equal the world record set by South Korea at the Incheon Asian Games in 2014.
India had defeated South Korea 234-233 in the semifinal at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park to book its place in the final.
The Indian women’s compound team had also won gold at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, successfully defending its title in Aichi-Nagoya.
