India's star shuttler HS Prannoy made headlines with a stunning victory in the men's quarterfinal of the Australian Open 2023 Super 500 tournament in Sydney on Friday, August 4.

Prannoy remarkably came from behind to outclass top seed and World No. 2 Anthony Ginting in three games to book his place in the semi-final.

His promising run in 2023 continues as he managed to make it to the final four on the tour for the third time this season.

Prannoy successfully clinched the Malaysia Masters title earlier this year and looked on song with a sensational recovery after going down in the first game to win the tough contest 16-21, 21-17, 21-14 against the Asian champion Ginting.

Prannoy wasn't that bad in the first game as well, showing his class with some classy winners before Ginting goes past him to clinch the early advantage.

The 31-year-old, however, didn't lose his cool and kept his composure very high to come up with improved rallies and went on to register the third win over the Indonesia star in five previous encounters.

Prannoy, who is the only Indian ranked in the top 10 in singles, will face Priyanshu in an all-Indian semi-final.

Earlier, Priyanshu got the better of senior compatriot Kidambi Srikanth by 21-13, 21-8, defeating the star player in just 30 minutes.

This was his third victory over a player ranked inside the top 20 as he contones to shine in what is looking like his breakthrough season in 2023.

However, Rajawat, the 21-year-old from Madhya Pradesh, who had joined Pullela Gopichand's Gwalior academy at the age of 8, has improved by leaps and bounds in the last 12 months, having stretched Ginting, Japan's Kodai Naraoka, and compatriot Lakshya Sen to three games this season.
