La Liga Updated Points Table: Kylian Mbappe continued his outstanding goal-scoring form as Real Madrid defeated Athletic Club 3-0 in the ongoing La Liga 2025-26 season on Wednesday. Mbappe scored two goals at San Mames, taking his goal-scoring tally to 16 goals in 15 matches.

However, Mbappe's effort wasn't enough to take Madrid to the top of the La Liga points table. They are placed second, only one point behind the arch-rivals and league leaders Barcelona. Notably, Los Blancos ended their three-game winless streak in La Liga, having played out draws against Rayo Vallecano, Elche and Girona.

Madrid have 36 points under their belt from 15 matchs. While Mbappe found the back of the net in the 7th and 59th minutes, Eduardo Camavinga sealed things for the visitors just in the first half as he scored in the 42nd minute. "It was an important match because we wanted to break the (bad) dynamic," Madrid manager Xabi Alonso said in a press conference.

"We came in with the necessary preparation and calm. The team played a very complete match. It’s the most well-rounded match we’ve played yet, and in a demanding stadium at that. Now we have to keep going."

Earlier, Barcelona capitalised on the opportunity and defeated Atletico Madrid 3-1 at home in the much-awaited contest to extend their stay at the top of the La Liga standings. They have 12 wins and 37 points under their belt after 15 games. Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres are their top goal-scorer in the league with 8 goals each. Villarreal, on the other hand, are placed third, followed by Atletico, whereas Real Betis complete the top five.
