Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2025: Max Verstappen came up with another impressive show as he ended up clinching a remarkable win at a chaotic Azerbaijan GP in Baku on Sunday. He bagged the title from pole position while Oscar Piastri crashed on the opening lap and had his Formula One lead over McLaren teammate Lando Norris slashed to 25 points.

Verstappen looked in full control right from the start and had a vast lead by the time he made his only pit stop. "The car was working really well," Verstappen said. "It was pretty straightforward. Of course, it's not easy around here, very windy today."

It was a dream outing for Mercedes’ George Russell and, more importantly, Williams’ Carlos Sainz, who both sealed the second and third spots on the podium respectively. McLaren hoped to secure their 10th Formula One constructors' title, and second in a row, on Sunday with a record seven rounds remaining, but they must now have to wait until Singapore on October 5.

The win was Verstappen's second in a row, and he was absolutely at his dominant best. "I think this weekend has been incredible for us," said Verstappen after his 67th career win and fourth of the season. "For us to win here again is just fantastic.

"We had clean air all the time, and you could then look after your tyres. And yeah, it was pretty straightforward."

Russell, on the other hand, was recovering from sickness but was happy to see a rough weekend finish strongly, while Sainz was the happiest man on the podium.

"I cannot describe how happy I am and how good this feels. It tastes even better than my first ever podium," said the four-time race winner with Ferrari.

World Champion Piastri had a nightmare outing as a disappointing result brought an end to his remarkable run of 34 consecutive points finishes.

The McLaren driver was left stranded on the grid after a false start, dropping to the back of the field. Attempting to recover, Piastri lost control at Turn Five and locked up heading into Turn Six, slamming into the wall.

Thankfully, the 24-year-old walked away unhurt, but it was his first non-scoring race of the season.
