Paris Olympics 2024 Athletics: India's men's 4x400m relay team clocked a season's best time of 3:00.58 to finish fourth in their heat race at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Friday, August 9.

Indian team consisting of Muhammed Anas, Rajesh Ramesh, Amoj Jacob and Muhammed Ajmal missed out on the qualification for the final. They clocked 0.32 seconds behind the cut-off time of 3:00.26 achieved by Italy.

A total of eight teams were part of the event with the top three from the two heats and the two best finishers from across the races making it to the all-important final.

India ended up finishing 10th in the overall standings.

Italy finished third from the second heat to make it to the final with a time of 3:00.26 which was just 0.32 quicker than the Indian men's relay team's effort.

On the other hand, Germany, who finished ahead of the Indian team in the overall times, were 0.03 seconds behind Italy's time.

Notably, the same Indian team had achieved a national record of 2:59.05 at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest last year.

France won in the second heat in 2:59.53 while Nigeria finished second in 2:59.81. However, Nigeria were later disqualified and South Africa went through to the final.

Belgium were eventually second with a timing of 2:59.84. The overall heats were topped by Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Botswana in 2:57.76.

Meanwhile, the Indian women’s 4x400m relay team of Jyothika Sri Dandi, MR Poovamma, Vithya Ramraj and Subha Venkatesan finished eighth and last in their heat with a time of 3:32.51

Tokyo 2020 bronze medallists Jamaica posted the fastest time in the second heat, finishing ahead of the Netherlands and Ireland with a time of 3:24.92.
