Paris Olympics 2024 Day 12 Highlights: Mirabai Chanu Fails To Defend Silver Medal, Finishes On Fourth Spot In Weightlifting (49kg); Vinesh Phogat Appeals To CAS For Silver Medal

Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat on Wednesday appealed against her disqualification from the 50kg category Olympic finals in the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), demanding that she be awarded a joint silver medal.

Indian athlete Avinash Sable will aim to mark a big impact in the men's 3000m steeplechase final at 1:13 AM IST (Thursday).

Diksha Dagar has moved up to second place in the standings. She managed to make a birdie on the fourteenth hole. Meanwhile, Aditi Ashok has dropped to 11th with a double bogey on the final hole.

The Indian women's table tennis team faced 1-3 defeat against Germany in the quarter-final, ending their campaign at Paris Olympics 2024.

Indian Wrestler Antim Panghal faced defeat in her opening bout against Zeynep Yetgil of Turkey in the round of 16 in the women's freestyle 53kg event.

Aditi Ashok makes her first bogey of the day on the par 3 eighth hole and is currently placed tied- sixth. Celina Borge of Norway with a score of three under after seven holes sits atop the leaderboard. Ashok needs to ensure that she does not fall further to have a chance in the next three rounds to recover. Still early days but Ashok would want to finish today’s round with an under-par score.

If the first game was a marathon, the second was a sprint as Shan thumps Archana 11-1. She was 9-0 up and Archana just managed to get a point. The Indians will have to quickly forget this game to get back in the match. 

Annu Rani's campaign is over as well. She finishes with a best of 55.81m. She is already out of the top 12, with one more group left. 

Match 2: Manika and India in trouble as Kaufman takes the third game for a 2-1 lead in this match. Gerany have already won the doubles match and lead the tie 1-0. Its a must-win game for Manika now in this best of five match. 

Match 2: Manika shows Germany that they are very much in this game. She takes her first game 11-8 and is looking very dangerous. The youngster Kaufman is not going to go down without a fight but Manika seems ready for everythinhg that is thrown at her. 

First 3 in each heat (Q) and next 3 fastest (q) advance to semifinals. All other (Re) advance to Rpechage round (except DNS, DNF, DQ), Jyoythi Yarraji, India's best hurdler is in action in heat 5, heat 2 is about to start. 

Match 1: Germany surprise India by taking the first game. The 41 year old Xiaona Shan using all her experience to thwart any attak from Sreeja. The Germans are keeping it wide, switching it well and the Indians are struggling.  

In the quarterfinal of the women's table tennis team event, Manika Batra and Co. will take on Germany, who beat USA in the Round of 16. India will go in as favourites, despite Germany's rank. Germany are missing their key player in World No.17 Nina Mittelham and its a big loss for them.

Despite the best efforts from the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50kg this morning. No further comments will be made by the contingent this time. The Indian team requests you to respect Vinesh's privacy. It would like to focus on the competitions on hand.

Marathon race walk relay mixed

The event is being held on the same course as the individual race walking events at the foot of the Eiffel Tower and will be competed in about 3 hours. The requirement of each athlete to compete two legs will add an endurance component to the race. 

Its an early start to India's day as the new event introduced for Paris gets underway. Its the marathon race walk relay mixed where India are represented by Suraj Panwar and Priyanka. The Indians have been placed at the 10th at the 3.4km mark.

The race covers a distance of 42.195 km. Both athletes in each pair have to run two distinct legs, alternating in an order of male 11.45 km, female 10 km, male 11 km, female 10.745 km.
