Paris Olympics 2024: India's star wrestler Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024 gold medal match. This happened with Vinesh Phogat being found overweight just before the summit clash against USA's Sarah Hildebrandt in the 50kg freestyle event. She was in the weight criteria for the qualifier and the semifinal round. But she was 150 grams overweight ahead of the summit clash and thus won't be in contention to even clinch the silver medal.

Was Vinesh Phogat within 50kgs earlier?
In a surprising turn of events, Phogat won three consecutive matches on August 7, Tuesday. She was inside the 50kg category, where she also thrashed the Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Yui Susaki in the first round. Vinesh then defeated Ukraine's Oksana Livach in the quarterfinals and the defending champions of Pan American games Yusneylis Guzman in the semifinals.
Vinesh Phogat cuts down weight ahead of Paris Olympics 2024
In the last year, Vinesh Phogat has fought not just for her career but for her life as well. She was one of the protesters against Brij Bhushan Sharna Singh and was one of the country's biggest medal contenders, who could have won the first gold medal at the Olympics. She also underwent knee surgery and because of this, she had to pull out from the Asian Games and then bounced back brilliantly.
But she did reduce her weight to 50kg to qualify for the Olympics. She participated in the 53kg category in the last two Olympics. As Antim Panghal qualified for this category, Vinesh then reduced her weight to 50kgs. She fought in three bouts in just one day and was given electrolytes to help her get her energy back and that might have increased her weight.
