IO Interactive has announced a two-month delay for its new James Bond action-adventure game, 007 First Light. The title was previously scheduled to release on March 27, 2026 and will now welcome fans back to its setting of disrepair from May 27, 2026 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series S/X and Nintendo Switch 2.

The developer explained that the decision to push it back was so the team could have more time to refine the experience and that players will be happy with what they get on launch day. A 007 First Light barometer has already been played through from beginning to end, IO Interactive said – and this extra development time will be used for polish and optimisation ahead of release.

The studio announced 007 First Light in a statement, calling it its “most ambitious project to date.” “We’re going to need a little time to guarantee that we can create the very best game possible,” the independent developer and publisher, IO Interactive, said in a statement announcing the delay Wednesday. The studio also expressed gratitude to fans for their patience and announced that more developments will be revealed in 2026.

007 First Light is a completely new take on James Bond’s origins. The game focuses on a youthful 26-year-old Bond and his process of becoming a ‘00’ agent. Players can anticipate a mix of stealth action, hand-to-hand fighting, gunplay, driving sections, gadgets and globe-trotting missions that see you infiltrating fortified locations.

The game was most recently shown during Sony’s State of Play presentation in September, where IO Interactive took a deep dive on its mission structure, stealth mechanics and combat systems. The game will introduce new characters as well as classic ones from the Bond universe, such as Q, Miss Moneypenny and Mission designer A new villain named Bawmba was announced at The Game Awards 2025.

And although it missed its release window, you can still preorder 007 First Light on your preferred platform. IO Interactive says the additional runway will enable it to release the game in the strongest possible shape when it finally arrives in May 2026.
