Airtel just signalled how aggressively it’s scaling its broadband business, and the numbers tell the full story. Xstream Fiber has posted 50% year-on-year growth in home passes, backed by a fibre network that now stretches beyond 5,00,000 kilometres across India. For a segment that’s suddenly become the centre of the connected-home boom, Airtel clearly wants to lock in as many households as possible while the market is still up for grabs.
Airtel’s home broadband push
The company told Gadgets 360 that India’s “connected homes” — places with smart TVs, streaming devices and internet-powered appliances — are rising fast. Airtel expects this base to double from 50 million to 100 million in the medium term. To match that demand, it’s speeding up fibre rollout and widening its reach deep into more cities.

Airtel sees this moment as a land-grab phase in broadband: expand coverage quickly, onboard customers, and build a strong subscriber base before the next wave of home connectivity services takes over.
Xstream becoming the centrepiece
Airtel also emphasised how central the Xstream ecosystem has become to its consumer strategy. The platform bundles broadband, live TV and OTT apps, pushing the idea of one unified entertainment and connectivity setup for the home.

Xstream Fiber started in 2019 with a metro-focused launch, but now spans 1,100+ cities, including tier-2 and tier-3 regions. The service offers up to gigabit speeds, aimed at heavy streaming, remote work and households stacked with smart devices.
To strengthen the ecosystem, Airtel pairs Xstream Fiber with products like:
- Xstream Box and Xstream Smart TVs, built on Google TV
- Access to multiple OTT platforms through subscription bundles
- A unified interface combining TV channels and streaming apps
What this really means is that Airtel isn’t just selling broadband anymore — it’s selling a full home-entertainment experience anchored by fibre.
As demand spikes and competition heats up, Airtel clearly wants to be the strongest name in the living room.
