Apple may be preparing to take a big leap into consumer robotics, with reports pointing to a WALL-E-like companion device as part of its growing AI portfolio. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company is working on a tabletop robot designed to act as both a smart assistant and a personal companion, with a launch timeline reportedly aimed for 2027.

Sources familiar with the matter suggest this device could become the centrepiece of Apple’s AI strategy. Shaped somewhat like an iPad attached to a movable arm, the robot would be able to swivel, reposition itself, and even track people as they move around a room. FaceTime calls are expected to be supported, but the biggest shift may come from the upgraded Siri. Gurman reports that Siri could “inject itself into conversations between multiple people” and remember information from past interactions.

Apple is also said to be considering giving Siri a visual personality with an animated Finder logo, though the design is still under discussion. Alongside the robot, the company is reportedly exploring a smart speaker with a built-in display, possibly a future iteration of the HomePod.

Another AI-driven project in development involves smart security cameras under the codename J450. These cameras may include facial recognition, infrared sensors, and automation capabilities — such as turning lights on or playing music when specific individuals enter a room.

Central to these innovations will be a more conversational version of Siri, capable of understanding natural language and performing more complex tasks. This upgraded assistant, internally referred to as LLM Siri, will run on “an entirely new brain built around large language models” to better integrate personal user data.

The system will be powered by Apple’s in-house tech called Linwood, combined with external technology known as Glenwood. Reports also indicate that Apple is currently testing Anthropic’s Claude AI. The enhanced Siri experience could roll out as early as spring next year.
