iOS 18 Beta 5 Update: Apple, a Cupertino-based tech giant, is rumoured to introduce iOS 18 in September this year. Ahead of the launch, the company has been testing the builds of upcoming OS with public testers and developers. In the latest move, the company unveiled the fifth beta of iOS 18 for developers today. The release comes about two weeks after iOS 18 beta 4. The changes include an updated Photos app, a new Safari feature and many other minor tweaks.
Here are the notable changes and features that were a part of the iOS 18 Beta 5 build.
Apple iOS 18 Beta 5: Top Changes
In the Photos app, the carousel that enabled swiping across Collections from the main Photos grid has been removed, MacRumors noted. The update allows viewing more grid images at once and testers can scroll down to view collections. 'Recently Saved' has been integrated into 'Recent Days' and albums have moved higher up in case of multiple items. Users can also reorder Collections.
In Safari, Apple has added a Distraction Control feature to let users hide distracting elements in a webpage or article. As per the report, sign-in windows, cookies and GDPR notices, newsletter signup alerts, video autoplay and more can be hidden with the feature. It can deal with static elements and not dynamic ones such as ads. The 'Hide Distracting Items' will be available in the webpage settings from where users can choose which elements to hide.
For Home Screen, the company has added an 'Edit Pages' option to let testers delete or hide entire Home Screen pages. It offers better labelling when a user chooses the 'Edit' option. The company has also redesigned the Maps and Find My icons and added Dark Mode icons in Search. On top of this, the company introduced fresh designs for icons on the Control Centre.
In Settings, users can now manage Stolen Device Protection via the 'Privacy & Security' menu. Meanwhile, the company introduced iOS 18.1 a week ago with Apple Intelligence features in beta. Apple will likely introduce iOS 18 stable build after the launch of the iPhone 16 series next month.
