iOS 18 Update Leaks: Apple is currently testing its upcoming iPhone software iOS 18 with beta testers and developers. The OS update will debut for eligible iPhones this fall. However, Apple Intelligence features, teased at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, may not arrive in the first stable version and debut later. While the move will delay the beta release timeline, it would allow Apple extra time to patch issues.

Citing people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported the company may start rolling out Apple Intelligence to iPhone users in October 2024. This implies a few weeks delay as iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 are speculated to release in September. As for the beta versions, the company reportedly plans to bring Apple Intelligence to the beta developer build as soon as "this week" with an upcoming beta version of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, a different move from its usual strategy.

The arrival of Apple Intelligence beta for developers could allow Apple to recognise possible issues at a much wider scale. The software was introduced in June at the WWDC 2024 and was made available for testing to developers on the same day. While Apple has already introduced the fourth beta for developers, it plans to complete development this month.

There is a possibility that the upcoming iPhone 16 series may not launch with AI features and get them with an upcoming update after the release. Apple Intelligence will include improved Siri, summarisation, transcription and text generation, and other generative AI capabilities. Plus, even iOS 18.1 could miss out on a few AI enhancements such as on-device Siri operations.

The entire suite of AI features may roll out steadily over the first half of 2025. Beyond iPhones, Apple Intelligence will debut on iPad and Mac devices and gradually on the Apple Vision Pro. As for the current lineup, the iPhone 15 Pro models will get Apple Intelligence features. iPad and Mac running M1 or later processors are also eligible for these AI features.
