iOS 27: Apple has finally locked in its WWDC keynote, and as always, the spotlight is on the next version of iOS. The company hasn’t said a word about what’s coming, but if you’ve been tracking the leaks, you already have a rough idea of where things are headed with iOS 27.
When To Expect iOS 27
The update is expected to be unveiled during the WWDC keynote, with Tim Cook likely taking the stage alongside Apple’s incoming chief executive John Ternus. If Apple sticks to its usual schedule, the developer beta should roll out right after the presentation, followed by a public beta sometime in July.
The final version typically arrives alongside the new iPhone lineup in September, so that timeline should hold this year as well.
A More Polished, Less Flashy Update
This time, iOS 27 may not be about headline-grabbing features. Reports suggest Apple is taking a “Snow Leopard” approach, focusing more on refining the experience than reinventing it.
In simple terms, expect fewer bugs, smoother performance, and better optimisation across iPhones, iPads, and even Macs. This kind of groundwork usually doesn’t grab attention immediately, but it often makes a noticeable difference in day-to-day use.
There’s also a bigger picture here. Apple is believed to be preparing its software for future devices, including a foldable iPhone that could deliver a more tablet-like experience when unfolded.
Siri Might Finally Get Serious
If there’s one area where iOS 27 could feel like a real upgrade, it’s Siri.
There are rumors that Apple is looking to redesign its voice assistance system, and this time, it is likely to involve more than just minor changes. There have been reports of Apple developing a separate app for Siri that would function like an artificial intelligence chatbot. That means things like remembering past conversations, handling documents, and offering more natural responses.
There’s also talk of a redesigned interface. Siri could become more integrated into the Dynamic Island, expanding when activated and offering a more interactive “search or ask” experience.
More importantly, Siri is expected to become more aware of your personal context. It could pull information from messages, notes, and emails to answer questions or complete tasks inside apps without you needing to jump between them.
Apple may also open things up with an “Extensions” system, allowing users to plug in third-party AI tools instead of relying on just one assistant.
AI Is Moving Into The Camera
Another interesting shift could happen inside the camera app. Apple is reportedly working on deeper AI integration here, including a dedicated Siri mode.
The idea is simple. You point your camera at something, ask a question, and get answers instantly. This could work alongside external AI tools and even support features like reverse image search directly from the camera interface.
There are also more practical additions being tested. For instance, when scanning a nutrition label, the information will be recorded without any need for manual entry. Likewise, scanning a business card can automatically record contact information without requiring any manual data entry.
Photos App To See Significant Improvements
Similarly, the Photos application will likely receive some upgrades as well. Apple is said to be adding a new set of AI-driven editing tools under a dedicated section.
These tools could include the ability to extend an image beyond its original frame, improve lighting and colours automatically, and even adjust the perspective after a photo has been taken.
It’s the kind of editing flexibility that Android phones have been pushing for a while, and Apple now seems ready to catch up.
Which iPhones Will Get The Update
Not every iPhone may be eligible this time. Reports suggest Apple could drop support for the iPhone 11 lineup and the second-generation iPhone SE.

Should this occur, iPhones such as those in the iPhone 12 range, and onwards, are expected to get the upgrade. The more sophisticated functionalities of the AI technology are expected to only be available on newer phones, with the iPhone 15 Pro range being the latest example.
What This Update Really Means
On the surface, iOS 27 might look like a quieter release. But that doesn’t necessarily make it less important.
If Apple gets the basics right, better performance, fewer bugs, and a smarter Siri, this could end up being one of those updates you don’t notice immediately but appreciate every single day.
