Apple, a Cupertino-based tech giant, is expected to unveil the iPhone 16 series later this year. While we are a few weeks away from launch, the rumour mill has churned out details about the front camera of the iPhone 17 series. Citing Apple analyst Jeff Pu, MacRumors reported the iPhone 17 lineup (expected to debut in 2025) may offer a 24MP selfie shooter. As per a research note accessed by the news tracker, the lineup may include four models.
The iPhone 17 series is expected to include the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Slim, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. All models could sport a 24MP front camera inside the Dynamic Island. The sensor could have six plastic lens elements. For context, the iPhone 15 series has a 12MP front sensor with five plastic lens elements.
In January 2024, in a post on Medium, TF International Securities Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo noted the iPhone 17 will likely offer a 24MP 6P lens compared to the 12MP 5P lens of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16. The change may significantly improve image quality. More megapixels could imply selfies may retain quality even after getting cropped to an extent. Plus, this could allow more flexibility while editing photos and return enhanced output.
For context, the iPhone 17 series is expected to arrive in September 2025. This implies we are over a year away from a possible launch. Meanwhile, the rumour mill has managed to leak several details about the iPhone 16 series, which may debut with a range of other upgrades over its predecessor.
The iPhone 16 series will likely launch in the first half of September this year. Apple is expected to announce the models with iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence beta features. The models will also debut with a range of upgrades compared to its predecessor.
