WatchOS 11 Features: Apple previewed watchOS 11 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 today. The new OS brings a new Vitals app that presents "key health metrics" and gives more context on a wearer's health or when they are out of their normal range. The Cycle Tracking app for pregnancy (when a user logs in pregnancy in the Health app) will display the gestational age and let the wearer log symptoms experienced during this phase.
These wearers will also be asked to review things such as high heart rate, set reminders for health assessments, alert the wearer of potential fall risks in the third trimester (when Walking Steadines is measured by iPhone) and more. WatchOS 11 also introduces "Training Load" to assess the intensity and duration of workouts over time. "Training load helps users understand the strain on their body from workouts over the last seven days compared to the last 28 days" in the Activity app.
A new effort rating will be available to track the difficulty levels of a workout on a scale of 1 to 10. The OS also introduced added customisations for the Activity Ring and the Fitness app. Users can customise the Summary tab in Fitness to check just the right information they want. New widgets in the OS include Shazam, Photos, Distance, and more.

Apart from suggesting widgets, "new interactive widgets allow users to interact with an app directly from the Smart Stack, and Live Activities is also now available on Apple Watch within the Smart Stack," Apple added. WatchOS 11 will also help users assess the best photos to set as a watch face on a range of factors such as "aesthetics, composition, and even facial expressions" using machine learning.
The custom algorithm will narrow down on a frame and composition, and the wearer can further personalise it based on their preferences. Moreover, Apple added the "Check In" feature and said the Translate app will also be available on Apple Watch. Users can also use the double-tap gesture to scroll across apps with one hand. Moreover, additional workouts in the Workout app, summarised notifications (powered by Apple Intelligence) and Tap to Cash are among other notable features in watchOS 11.
WatchOS 11: Check Availability, Supported Devices
Apple said the Developer beta of watchOS 11 will be available today. The public beta will be released next month. Lastly, the stable version will be out in the fall of 2024 for Apple Watch Series 6 or later devices paired with an eligible iPhone (iOS 18 running iPhone Xs or later). The rollout is expected to begin around the launch of the iPhone 16 series, which is rumoured for September.
