BSNL 5G launch: BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited), the state-owned telecom service provider, has begun the testing for its 5G network infrastructure. Several 5G tower sites are now operational and include places like Jaipur, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Bhopal, Kolkata, Patna, Hyderabad, and Chennai to name a few. According to a report by Business Standard, most of them are 4G sites, which are included in the current deployment of 1 lakh 4G towers. BSNL officials mentioned that these sites are planned for a future upgrade to 5G.

BSNL plans to launch 5G network services in the coming three months, according to the report. For now, in places which are BSNL's stronghold, network testing is being carried on. BSNL officials stated that additional base transceiver stations (BTS) are being set up in cities such as Kanpur, Pune, Vijayawada, Coimbatore, and Kollam.

4G towers will be active by June 2025

According to a TelecomTalk report dated March 7, 2025, BSNL's one lakh 4G towers will be fully operational by June 2025. These towers have been built using indigenous technology and will later be upgraded to 5G. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also confirmed this. Thus, BSNL's 4G and then 5G launch is now just a few months away.
