Cyberpunk 2, the follow-up to CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, is still a fair few years away. The role-playing game might be coming in the fourth quarter of 2030, according to a new estimate from Polish analytics firm Noble Securities. If this timeline were to be maintained, the sequel would launch for next-gen consoles and high-end PCs.

No formal release window or date for Cyberpunk 2 was announced by CD Projekt Red, but they have confirmed the game is now in pre-production. The majority of the company’s development resources are currently dedicated to The Witcher 4, which is its number one priority.

Cyberpunk 2 Development Status and Budget

The second part, which was in the pipeline this summer under the codename Project Orion, went into pre-production in May. Cyberpunk 2 is estimated to have had a development budget of approximately PLN 1.5 billion ($416 million) by Noble Securities. That number is in line with what The Witcher 4's budget is anticipated to be, showcasing how ambitious the project already seems to be.

In addition, the analytics firm noted that a 2030 launch date would fall on Cyberpunk 2077's 10-year anniversary, considering it first launched on December 10, 2020.

CD Projekt Red has not released any budget numbers or timing. The company said in its latest financial update that more than 80 developers at its Boston studio were working on a project known internally as Cyberpunk 2, and it also intended to double the size of that team over the next two years.

The Witcher Franchise Takes Priority

Before this cyberpunk sequel hits full gear, CD Projekt Red has a busy schedule focused on The Witcher universe. The Witcher 4 is rumoured to be aiming for a 2027 release and, according to Noble Securities, has a Q4 2027 (October-December period) launch date. The studio has announced in the past that they are planning to release a new Witcher trilogy over the next six years, beginning with this game.

In addition to that, the developer is also working on a remake of the original The Witcher – codenamed Canis Majoris – and a multiplayer-focused Witcher spin-off called Sirius. Both are said to be scheduled for release in 2028. CD Projekt Red’s new IP, Project Hadar, is rumoured to be even further off in the horizon, possibly landing around 2032.

One of the more shocking things brought up in the report is that CD Projekt Red could be working on a new paid expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. A third significant DLC may also come in May 2026, to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Blood and Wine expansion, according to Noble Securities.

Surprise Witcher 3 DLC Reportedly in the Works

The Witcher 3 previously enjoyed two well-received expansions: Heart of Stone and Blood and Wine, launched in 2015 and 2016. (It is worth noting that CD Projekt Red has not made any announcements of further DLC, and this remains unconfirmed.)

What CD Projekt Red Has Said So Far

Although the rumours continue to mount, CD Projekt Red has published few statements regarding any of them. It is just a few; it doesn't mean it’s near completion Cyberpunk 2 is still way in the beginning of development, not almost finished Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski recently said.

The studio has promised to share clearer updates once the project moves closer to full production. Until then, any release window, including the reported 2030 target, should be treated as an estimate rather than a confirmed plan.
