Death Stranding 2 Launch: Hideo Kojima has officially announced the much-anticipated sequel to Death Stranding. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is set to launch on June 26, 2025, nearly six years after the first game’s debut. Pre-orders open on March 17, with the announcement made during SXSW 2025, where Kojima also unveiled a brand-new 10-minute trailer.

Returning Cast and New Faces

The sequel brings back familiar faces from the original game, including Norman Reedus as Sam Bridges, Léa Seydoux as Fragile, and Troy Baker as Higgs. Joining them are Elle Fanning (playing Tomorrow), Shioli Kutsuna (Rainy), and George Miller (Tarman). Additional cast members include Luca Marinelli as Neil, Debra Wilson as Doctor, and Alissa Jung as Lucy.

What We Know About the Story

The plot remains largely under wraps, but the game takes place 11 months after the formation of the United Cities of America. Kojima previously revealed that he completely rewrote the story after the events of 2020, promising a deeper exploration of human connection and the meaning behind the term “strand.”

Collector’s Edition and Pre-Orders

A Collector’s Edition of Death Stranding 2 will include exclusive items such as:

  • A digital copy of the game

  • Two days of early access

  • A Dollman figure

  • A set of art cards

  • A letter from Hideo Kojima

  • Exclusive in-game bonuses

  • A 15-inch "Magellan Man" figure

Pre-orders for all editions go live on March 17.

Live-Action Movie and Concert Tour

Alongside the game, a live-action Death Stranding movie is also in the works, produced by A24. The film won’t be a direct adaptation but will take place within the same universe.

Kojima has also announced The Strands of Harmony World Tour, a live orchestral concert series featuring music from the Death Stranding franchise. The tour kicks off on November 8, 2025, in Sydney, Australia, and will visit 19 cities worldwide.

Kojima’s Legacy

Hideo Kojima is widely regarded as one of the most influential game designers of modern times. His previous work, the Metal Gear Solid series, has sold over 60 million copies globally, generating over $1 billion in revenue.

Since going independent in 2015, Kojima Productions has continued to push the boundaries of storytelling in video games. With Death Stranding 2 on the horizon, fans are eager to see what’s next from the legendary creator.
