Elon Musk, Tesla and SpaceX CEO, who has been working on enhancing X (formerly Twitter), has now announced that a new alternative to Gmail service ‘Xmail’ is coming soon. This comes after the rumours of Gmail shutting down are floating all over social media.
The billionaire indicated the email service is coming shortly when asked on X if he is planning one. A member of X's Engineering and Security team named Nate McGrady had inquired about the launch date of XMail.
Musk responded, "Coming," setting off a chain reaction in the tech sector as rumours of Google planning to discontinue Gmail spread over social media. Reaction from a follower: "Gmail has lost my faith. It's time to move to Xmail right away! "I will use my Gmail as I use my Hotmail now, for junks," another person said in a remark.

A picture that appeared to be an email from Google announcing that it would be "sunsetting" Gmail in August 2024 circulated around X earlier in the day. When it turned out to be a phoney, Google declared that Gmail was here to stay.
This year, the corporation will discontinue the simple HTML version, and consumers will be redirected to the "Standard" view of the service.
Meanwhile, Google has not officially confirmed the shutting down of its popular mail service. The company has confirmed that it will be killing the standard HTML services. “Gmail is transitioning users from Basic HTML view to the latest version of Gmail, also known as Standard view. If you use a screen reader for Gmail in Basic HTML view, read our transition guide,” it added to the help page.
In the latest tweet from Gmail’s X profile, Google said, “Gmail is here to stay” hinting that Gmail will function in the future.
