Meta AI-Powered Smart Glasses: It seems that Meta is preparing to launch another set of smart glasses after the company received a good response from the AI-powered Ray-Ban smart glasses that have sold more than two million pairs. Meta is now joining hands with brands like Oakley and Prada to launch AI-powered smart glasses, which are co-designed in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, according to a report from CNBC.
The new Oakley-branded smart glasses will be targeted towards athletes who want to record their session while they are playing, like tennis, according to a report from CNBC. The smart glasses will supposedly have the same hardware as the Ray-Ban glasses but will be "weather resistant".
After the Ray-Ban glasses saw a massive success in its sales, which were launched in 2023, Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO, says that they would like to sell “hundreds of millions and eventually billions of AI glasses”. A post on X (Twitter) was shared by Oakley on June 16, saying, “The next evolution is coming on June 20.”

Meta is ramping up its smart glasses game once again—this time with a new pair designed in collaboration with Oakley, a brand known for its sporty edge. While Meta already has the Ray-Ban smart glasses in the market, priced at $299 or ₹29,900 in India, the Oakley version is expected to start around $360 (approximately ₹31,074), though Indian pricing might go up to ₹35,000.
What sets these Oakley smart glasses apart? For starters, they’re reportedly geared more towards athletes, and one key design tweak includes repositioning the camera to the centre of the frame. That should make for a more natural perspective when capturing action shots.
In terms of hardware, they’re said to be quite similar to Meta’s current Ray-Ban smart glasses. And that means users can likely expect a familiar set of features: live AI interactions through Meta AI, real-time translation, music discovery via Shazam, streaming support from Spotify and Amazon Music, and even landmark recognition. Many of these features have already been added to Ray-Ban smart glasses and are now expected to carry over to the Oakley variant as well.
EssilorLuxottica, the parent company behind Ray-Ban and Oakley, is based out of France and Italy and holds licensing agreements with more than 150 eyewear brands, including Persol and Vogue Eyewear. Last year, it also renewed a 10-year partnership with luxury fashion label Prada, covering “development, production and worldwide distribution of eyewear under the Prada and Prada Linea Rossa brands”.
That Prada partnership is now reportedly extending into the smart glasses world too. Meta is said to be planning Prada-branded AI glasses, although there’s no official launch timeline yet. Interestingly, former Meta employees have pointed out that Prada’s thick temple designs leave enough room for embedding components like microphones and chips—a practical bonus for a tech-meets-fashion product.
As for India, Meta recently introduced the second generation of its Ray-Ban smart glasses, which are available in multiple styles, including the newly added Skyler frame, and start at ₹29,900. These come with standard lens options and reflect Meta’s ongoing effort to blend wearables with everyday style.
Earlier this year, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth highlighted 2025 as a landmark year for the company’s Reality Labs division, which oversees smart glasses and headset development. The company is rumoured to be working on “half a dozen” wearable products, one of which is a pair of AR glasses codenamed Hypernova, featuring a built-in display on the bottom right of the lens.
But it's not just Meta that is diving into the smart glasses scene; tech giants like Google and Apple are also getting in on the action and might drop their own products very soon. Apple might come out with its glasses next year, but Google had announced last month that it will be partnering up with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker to launch their Android XR-aided smart glasses.
The future of smart eyewear seems to be getting a whole lot more fashionable—and functional.
