G20 Summit 2023: UPI, Aadhaar, CoWIN, 'Modern Face Of India' To Be Showcased At G20 | Details

As India gears up for the upcoming G20 summit, we hear new details on the event at regular intervals. In the latest update, ANI, citing a senior official, reported that the country will showcase its digital advancements via experience panels for delegates for a demo about how to make payments using Unified Payments Interface (UPI).

Muktesh K Pardeshi, Special Secretary for G20 Operations, told the media outlet that the facility would help them understand the model of digital payments in India, the development mechanism of the CoWin app and the Aadhaar system.

"We are going to showcase progress in the field of the digital sector. So there'll be an experience zone created to showcase the progress we have achieved in the field of technological transformation, particularly digital transformation," the official said.

"There will be some experience panels created for delegates to experience, for instance how UPI payment is done. People will get to know how biometric enrolment was done and one billion people were connected through Aadhaar. How the CoWin app was developed," Pardeshi told ANI in an interview.

"Not everybody is able to understand how India has been able to leapfrog in the sector of digital payment. So we want to showcase the modern face of India as well," he added.

According to the official website of NPCI, the UPI system allows a user to use multiple bank accounts in one unified app to make and receive payments using a mobile number or a QR code. CoWin portal was a central platform to book slots for vaccination and download certificates during the outburst of COVID-19. In simple terms, Aadhaar serves as a proof of identity for diverse purposes in India. It can be managed electronically using the official channels of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

Further, the official added that an exhibition - 'Bharat, the Mother of Democracy' will be organised to verse the guests with the roots of Indian democracy. To recall, the country assumed the G20 presidency in December last year and around 200 meetings have been organised at various spots in India since then.
