Google has been betting big on its AI model Gemini in the recent past to enhance its popular apps. The company recently introduced the general availability of the Gemini side panel in Gmail. It allows users to summarise and suggest responses in email conversations and find out particular information from emails on the web by asking questions within a user's inbox or Google Drive.

To enhance information discoverability on smartphones, the company announced the Gmail Q&A feature on Android. According to Google, Gmail Q&A will arrive for iPhone users soon. The feature is similar to the side panel on the web. Users can question Gemini about their inbox and discover specific information faster, view unread messages, filter emails from a sender or summarise conversations concerning a particular topic.

"Users now have even more capabilities from Gemini to help users get more done during their day at their desks and now, on the go," Google said. An Android user must enable smart features and personalisation features to try out Gmail Q&A. Admin accounts can enable default personalisation settings for users via the Admin console.

Users can open Gemini from the Gmail app using the black Gemini star at the top right or via the "summarise this email" chip. Gmail Q&A can discover information from the inbox. In the future, Gmail Q&A will gain the functionality to find information from Google Drive as well. Google added that the feature will be available for Workspace users with add-ons including Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, Education Premium and Google One AI Premium.
