Gmail, Google's popular email communication service, regularly gets fresh enhancements to upscale user experience. In a fresh move, the tech giant has introduced new and more stringent requirements for senders who send email in large numbers (5,000+ per day) to ensure that the recipient's inbox receives less spam and is clean and tidy.

Here are all the details to give you a clear idea of the new requirements introduced by Google that will go into effect in February 2024.

Email Authentication: For bulk senders, the company has now mandated "strong" authentication for emails through a "well-established best practices" guide. According to Google, "this will close loopholes exploited by attackers."

Option To Unsubscribe Easily: While the option to unsubscribe is present at the bottom of a spam email sender, the new protocol will make the process as easy as "one click." Large senders will have to supply users with an option to unsubscribe to their commercial emails with just a click. This request shall be adhered to within two days.

Share Relevant Emails: Google has a set of tools to keep spam at bay in a user's inbox. Adding arsenal to these tools, the search leader will introduce a spam rate threshold that the senders will have to stay under to ensure receivers do not get bombarded with unwanted emails.

The company also shared clear guidance before these changes came into effect for additional details. According to Google, Gmail's AI defense already blocks over 99.9 per cent of "spam, phishing and malware" and stops around 15 billion unwanted emails in a day. But considering the evolving threats and the 20-year-old nature of the technology, the company introduced these changes.

On a related note, the company previously said that the Basic HTML version of Gmail will be usable until January 2024. This old-school look misses out on features such as chat, keyboard shortcuts, spell checker, rich formatting, adding or importing contacts and custom "from" addresses.
